March 21, 2014 – After junior pitcher Casey Peters retired Huntsville first three batters in a row, Willis got on the score board. Casey placed her pitches on the outside and inside corners and her pitches had a lot of ball movement. Casey Peters has verbal to pitch for Navarro Community College. Willis opened the scoring in the first inning when Sam Maddin led off with a line drive single to the left field-center field gap. Junior Emily Debrow followed with a line drive single to right field that moved Sam to 3rd base. Erica Wood who has verbal to East Texas Baptist College (ETBU) popped up to the 2nd baseman for out No. 1. Sam scored when freshman Casey Dixon grounded out to the short stop to give Willis a 1-0 lead. Catcher Kay Lynn Johnson (KK) grounded out to the short stop to complete the inning.
In the second inning, freshman Rachel Brown drew a walk. 5’8” Emma Mohr hit a grounder in the gap between short stop and third base for a single that moved Rachel to 2nd base. Junior Hanna (Fast) Stepp struck out on a high pitch for out No. 1. Casey Peters grounded out to the short stop. Freshman Lizzy Zwal singled. Sam Mauldin singled again to left field over the short stop head to score Rachel Brown for a Willis 2-0 lead.
Willis added two more runs in the 3rd inning. Erica Wood led off the inning with a grounder in the hole between short stop and 3rd base. Casey Dixon reached first on an error by the 3rd baseman. KK hit a hard grounder up the middle, scoring Wood from second. Casey Dixon was tagged out going to third for the first out. Rachel Brown bunted a single. Emma Mohr struck out for out No. 2. Hanna (Fast) Stepp used her speed to beat out a ball to the short stop. KK scored on Hanna’s single. Casey Peters grounded out to the third baseman to end the inning.
In the fourth inning, Huntsville decided to score a run. Lee Luker singled. Ricki was thrown out going to first by the Willis catcher, KK. The next batter singled to score Lee.
In the fifth inning, Huntsville scored two more runs to make a game of it. Morgan Cheathum grounded out to the short stop. Samantha Willis singled. Kelsey got on base safely. Anna Lynch made out No. 2. Lee Luker singled again, scoring Samantha and Kelsey. Ricki grounded out to the short stop for the third out. At this point it looked like the momentum had shifted to Huntsville.
In the fifth inning, KK and Emma Mohr both singled for Willis. But, Willis failed to score.
In the sixth inning, Willis brought in 5’9” freshman pitcher Casey Dixon to pitch to Huntsville for the last two innings. Only player’s named “Casey” can pitch at Willis. Casey struck out the first batter. The next batter reached first on a bunt but got caught leading off. The next batter grounder out to short stop Erica Wood.
In the sixth inning, Willis found more offense after Casey Peters popped up to the catcher for out No. 1. Sam Maddin doubled. Emily Debrow singled to right field and Sam scored to make the score 5-3. Erica Wood struck out looking for out No. 2. Casey Dixon singled. KK popped up to the center field for out No. 3.
Pitcher Casey Dixon used heat to strikeout Morgan Cheathum and Samantha Willis. Kelsey singled. Casey struck out Anna Lynch for her 4th strikeout to end the game.
